LUNATIC PRODUCTIONS Interviews - Foretold Defiance

LUNATIC: So first question like always; how did you guys come up with the name (I told you this shit was gonna happen) Defiance?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: Honestly, the legend goes that the bassist and other guitarist (miguel) were just writing down cool sounding random words with the thought of "defiance" in mind already. Sure enough, at random selection, there was the word "foretold" so they put two and two together and thats how the bands name came to be, but, as for the word "defiance" itself in the name, well, there are alot of bands around here in our area that sound the same its either entirely too intense death metal that makes me want to stab myself in the face or its the ever so fashionable xhardxcorex that makes me wonder whats next in the evolution of "metal" music?...its as if other locals pride themselves in sounding in these two particular ways. In opposition to that fact we vowed to never "take the easy way out" and in doing so, we stand out like a sore thumb...we are defiance in all reality...haha

LUNATIC: You guys just finished up a small tour. How did that go and where did it take you?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: The tour went very well thanks for asking! We had a blast and got to play our first out of state shows in Oklahoma and Missouri. You'd be surprised how many people were receptive to our style of music and how hospitable alot of the locals in those states were. It was really refreshing and the weather was very nice considering it was the middle of the summer...we went on tour with some friends from Laredo called "Dead Albatross" whom, I'll admit had a majority of the contacts and responsibility in setting up the tour. None the less they were great fellows and we caused all sorts of mischief and debauchery together as bands and had a really great time in doing so! As i aforementioned we played in the great states of Oklahoma and Missouri but of course we had to play ALL around Texas (the motherland) which is always a good time...i cant tell you how relieved i was to finally get back into Texas and eat at Dairy Queen all randomly not to mention WHATABURGER! ha

LUNATIC: Judging from the new songs you guys have on your myspace site, theres alot guitar solo work inbetween the heavy riffing. Can we expect that on all the songs off the new cd?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: well, some more than others i guess you could say. But, mind you, there will ALWAYS be some intense harmonies and no doubt a solo on each song to satisfy those who have an insatiable appetite for shred. But we like to satisfy any metal head with structure yet at the same time a healthy portion of insanity...mind you its done the right way...we know what we're doing...dont try this at home...

LUNATIC: Tell us abit about the Corpus Christi underground scene. What are the goods and bads about the local scene there?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: Well, to be honest theres really not any "pros" or more respectively "goods" about the scene here in corpus at least in regards to METAL...it really sucks...virtually no one goes to shows anymore just to go to shows...it always has to be closely knit friends or some sort of ridiculous fashion statement incentive (which we are obviously not) to get heads into venues...but like i said no one around here cares anymore...and the ones that do well they dont really support locals...just signed national touring acts(hardcore). the scene here in corpus is writhing in pain and slowly dying each and every show...well thats predominantly bads haha but i mean if i could try and think of some goods well lets see...some of the older local acts around here are REALLY cool guys...i mean theyve been around since i was a young lad back in grade school you know and now getting to hang with the older legends around here from time to time is pretty damn cool so thats really enjoyable...so in a nutshell the scene here is predominantly hardcore and even at that no one cares unless your one of those BIG signed touring acts that EVERYONE loves...so its really hit and miss :/

LUNATIC: Now that you've gotten a taste of being on tour, how does the other music scenes you visited compare to your local scene?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: well this isnt our first tour ever but definitely first time out of state as a band...honestly the scene in Oklahoma City, Missouri was amazing! there was ALOT of people there, we got treated like rockstars lol and everyone was really fucking cool with us and it was like just one big party! haha but yeah other music scenes are really awesome as opposed to the ones were so used to here in corpus (shitty and lame) :) but yeah then again we didnt even play alot of the places on weekends or fridays or anything like that so we didnt even get to experience them to theyre full potential as a "scene" but the rewards were most definitely worth while...all in all other scenes blow ours out of the fucking water!!

LUNATIC: When and where will the new cd be available, and any plans to visit the Mcallen TX area?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: well we're currently writing a little bit of more material...going to go over some lost songs over time and re-vamping them, then it will be time to hit the studios again and from there we establish distibution etc etc bear in mind that we are NOT signed yet so we dont have a label to help us out with these things...i mean hopefully in time it would be nice to get signed, but, personally i dont want to sign to some shitty label thats just gonna screw us over in the end...but yeah, im not going to hold my breath...as for visiting mcallen well shit we definitely have plans we just need to figure it all out as a band...but most definitely things will be picking up again soon (we're just all really lazy after our recent tour) ha but yeah sure enough within the next couple of weeks we will start booking shows again all around texas and we'll make sure that Mcallen is definitely one of the dates we stop at as long as we can find a place to play at and some people willing to listen to some fucking METAL!!!!

LUNATIC: Any last shout outs, thank yous, or fuck yous?

FORETOLD DEFIANCE: last shout outs to our recent tour mates Dead Albies, the rest of the band (miguel, rene, chris, and nat! ) who couldnt be here...(well they are but theyre in alice and houston) basically here in spirit...shout out to LUNATIC PRODUCTIONS for making this interview possible (thanks!) HAIL SATAN (jk) random shout out to my classical guitar teacher Phillip Hii because he's a bad ass and he pushes me subconciously to new "levels" haha...thanks to all my family and friends for their support its always invaluable and i love them all and a big fuck you to all the haters and nay sayers out there that only talk shit (theres alot of those around here) and to all the people that say theyre going to shows and DONT or the people that just dont go to shows at all but still say "music is my life"...thanks to YOU alex for being bad ass enough to want to interview us...i'll be honest this was MY first interview so hopefully no one throws cans or trash at me the next show when im on stage ha but yeah thank you again for the opportunity and we hope to talk to you all down there at lunatic productions again soon! take care! and stay METAL!!!!!!
